MEXICO’S FIRST PRIVATELY OWNED UTILITY SCALE PV PROJECT TO SELL DIRECTLY TO THE CFE
SONORA ENERGY TO BUILD 39MW SOLAR PROJECT IN MEXICO
SIMPLE MODEL PRODUCES IMMEDIATE AND SUSTAINED PROFITABILITY
1 June 2012 — (Hermosillo, Mexico) Sonora Energy Group de Hermosillo, S.A. de C.V. (SEGH) announced today that it will soon begin the construction of its solar energy generation project in Puerto Libertad, Sonora, Mexico, said Mario Martinez today, a spokesman for the Company. “This project, to be titled SEGH-CFE 1, is scheduled to fast-tract and be on line by Q2, 2013,” continued Martinez.
“Our photovoltaic project, located immediately adjacent to CFE’s giant, aged heavy fuel burning power station in Puerto Libertad, recently secured its permit from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico’s national utility, to produce up to 30,000 kW of electricity per hour. Given the technology, our blessed location and an installed capacity of 39 megawatts of multi crystalline silicon panels, SEGH-CFE 1 will generate close to 30 megawatts of clean electricity each hour — almost every day light hour,” added Don Walter, President of SEGH.
“As a result, over the course of a year, each year, SEGH-CFE 1 will transfer energy from the sun into 100,000,000 kWh of electricity directly into the national grid. I don’t want to compare our project with those being developed by others in the United States, Europe and South America, but our business model seems very simple – take advantage of highly competitive, drastically reduced equipment costs, make commonsense, reasonably structured debt and equity decisions, and sell the product to a proven, credit worthy buyer at a fair price. Our simple model means that SEGH-CFE 1 will go on-line at an installed cost significantly lower than $1500 per kW, be highly profitable from the first day of operation, and be better positioned to develop other projects in Mexico in the next several months,” concluded Walter.
SEGH-CFE 1 is the first utility scale, privately owned photovoltaic project in Mexico to receive a small producer permit from the CFE.
